Gulman: Apple plans to update the iMac later this year with a brand new color scheme.
Tech Home, March 8 — Since the current iMac design was introduced in 2021, Apple has upgraded the internal chips twice and has only updated the color options once. This year, that situation may change.
Mark Gurman reported today in Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter that Apple plans to introduce a new color scheme with the next iMac update.
According to Tech Home, the current iMac on sale is the 2024 M4 version, available in seven colors: blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver.
These colors are part of the M4 iMac update and are slight variations of the original seven colors of the M1 iMac. Apple did not change the color options when releasing the M3 iMac and skipped directly to the M2 chip in the iMac lineup.
Looking ahead, Gurman said Apple plans to “release a new iMac with a completely new color scheme later this year.”
From what I understand, the upcoming iMac update will feature entirely new colors.
It’s not yet clear whether this means new colors never seen before or if Apple will simply tweak the shades of existing colors. Regarding chips, Apple has already equipped several devices with the M5 chip, including the new M5 MacBook Air, so the iMac is likely to be upgraded to the M5 chip; Apple may also wait until the M6 chip is ready before updating the iMac.
