Abstract generation in progress

IT House February 4 News, although the market is full of uncertainty about the next-generation gaming consoles, AMD CEO Su Zifeng still believes that the possibility of delays is “not very high.”

In her latest statement, Su Zifeng mentioned that the next-generation Xbox and Valve’s Steam Machine are progressing normally, and both will continue to use AMD chip solutions. Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox is targeted for release in 2027, while Valve plans to launch a SteamOS-powered box device in early 2026.

According to reports from foreign media Wario64 and GamesBeat, Su Zifeng discussed the situation during the earnings call on February 3. “From a product perspective, Valve is on schedule to start shipping Steam Machines equipped with AMD chips early this year, and the development of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox using semi-custom AMD SoCs is also progressing smoothly, supporting a release in 2027.”

The continuous rise in memory prices has raised concerns within the industry about whether Microsoft can meet its schedule. Xbox President Sarah Bond previously claimed that the new device is “very high-end,” leading to questions about whether the price will be beyond players’ affordability.

If current trends continue, the new Xbox is expected to feature an AMD Magnus APU, equipped with an 11-core Zen6 CPU, and support RDNA5. As a hybrid form combining console and PC features, hardware requirements could reach 36GB or even more of GDDR7 memory. With memory shortages already driving up graphics card costs, the new console could further raise players’ budget thresholds.

The Steam Machine is positioned more towards the mid-to-low end, with a highlight being an AMD Zen4 processor. It uses RDNA3 architecture but still supports 4K output. However, amid high DDR5 costs, analysts also speculate that Valve may delay the originally planned release in the first quarter of 2026.

IT House reminds: Su Zifeng did not give a firm commitment that “2027 is definitely the release year.” Even if chip development progresses rapidly, external factors could still impact the final schedule.

Additionally, whether Microsoft should continue to focus on console hardware has become a point of debate. The decline of Xbox Series X|S has already dragged down gaming revenue, and whether it is worth continuing to invest in a more expensive new system remains to be seen.
