To be honest, the payment scenarios for stablecoins are actually quite interesting.
Personally, I think stablecoins are best suited for cross-border remittances—now that's a trillion-dollar market. Think about all the people who need to send money internationally; traditional banks are slow and expensive, and that's where stablecoins can really come in handy.
But when it comes to local payments? Not necessarily. Most countries already have incredibly mature payment systems. In China, we have Alipay and WeChat Pay, and in the US, people are perfectly comfortable using credit cards and checks. These systems are deeply integrated into daily life, with well-established user habits, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks.
So if stablecoins want to gain a foothold in the payments sector, they need to find their niche—cross-border payments might just be where they can truly shine.
