英國《金融時報》周四引述知情人士報導，全球最大穩定幣發行商 Tether，已委託全球四大會計師事務所之一的 KPMG，為旗下市值 1,850 億美元的 USDT 進行全面性財務審計。
同時，Tether 也聘請另一家四大會計師事務所 PwC，協助整理並優化公司內部系統與財務流程，為即將到來的審計作業做準備。這被視為 Tether 成立以來，朝「財務透明」邁出最實質、也最突破性的一步。
Tether 財務長 Simon McWilliams 本周稍早曾表示，公司「早已按照四大會計事務所的審計標準在運作」，並承諾「最終的審計報告一定會如期交付給大眾」。
這項審計行動，正值 Tether 準備進軍美國市場，並啟動新一輪融資之際。《金融時報》早前報導，Tether 曾尋求以 5,000 億美元的驚天估值，在市場上募集 150 億至 200 億美元的資金，但由於定價過於高昂，加上潛在的監管風險，讓不少機構投資人望而卻步。
目前，Tether 的儲備資產主要由全球第五大會計師事務所 BDO 的義大利分公司 BDO Italia 每月出具「鑑證報告（Attestation）」，與完整的財務報表審計有本質上的差異，後者需要對資產、負債、內部控制與報告系統進行詳細檢驗。
自 2014 年推出以來，外界對 USDT 是否有足額美元儲備的質疑聲浪從未停歇。回顧 2021 年，外媒《CoinDesk》曾透過《資訊自由法》（FOIL）向紐約州檢察長辦公室要求公開 USDT 的儲備明細，當時 Tether 為此甚至不惜對簿公堂，結果卻兩度敗訴。
歷經長達兩年的法律攻防，這些機密文件終於在 2023 年曝光。數據顯示，截至 2021 年 3 月，Tether 當時高達 406 億美元的儲備金中，絕大部分都存放在巴哈馬 Deltec 銀行，並且大量持有中國及國際銀行發行的商業票據，包括中國農業銀行、中國銀行（香港）與中國工商銀行。
這些揭露曾引發市場對流動性與信用風險的討論。不過近年來，Tether 的資產配置已逐步轉向短期美債，並減少商業票據部位。
